Note that the Air doesnt have the Force Touch trackpad found in some 12-inch and 15-inch MacBooks, or the new Touch Bar found on some laptops. SSDs designs were for laptops because of their rugged construction and minimal effect on battery life. It has a multi-touch trackpad, and LED-backlit keyboard. The standard MacBook Air comes with a fifth-generation Intel Core processor, 8 GB of RAM, and a 13-inch screen. The trade off was that it lost the optical SuperDrive, but external models soon picked up the slack. This meant that even though the MacBook Air was easily portable, it wasnt so small that it was hard to use. The processor was slower at 1.6 GHz, the hard drive smaller, but the screen and keyboard were full size. The key to success lay in what Apple didnt shrink for the Air, not what it did. It wasnt the first thin laptop, but it was the one that really made the category stand out. When Apple introduced the MacBook Air in 2008, it really put thin and light on the map.
